Study Groups and Supervision

Dr. Sommer Anderson offers study groups and individual and group supervision to mental health practitioners, healthcare professionals and bodyworkers. She has developed two experiential teaching programs that focus on the use of the practitioner's bodily experiences in the treatment process.

Sensing the Other®

This is an experiential teaching class in which psychotherapists and other healthcare professionals are personally taught by Dr. Sommer Anderson in individual sessions and in groups. She begins with a silent guided experiential process to heighten their awareness of bodily sensations, images, emotional reactions and cognitions associated with their patients' physical attributes and aspects of nonverbal communication. This silent process is followed by a discussion among the instructor and group, or with an individual, in which discoveries made during the experiential process are related to theories of emotional and cognitive processing.

Experiencing the Pain Matrix®

Having used psychotherapy for 29 years to treat people in physical pain, Dr. Sommer Anderson has created a series of silent, guided experiential processes to teach mental health practitioners, healthcare professionals, and bodyworkers about the complex, subjective experience of physical pain. In discussions that follow the experiential processes, she elucidates the role of sensory, affective, and cognitive processes in our perception of sensations that we label painful.
